Strelitzia Nicolai (Bird of Paradise)
Strelizia Nicolai is an absolute must have if you're looking for a gorgeous statement plant for your place! South American native, it grows to be up to 2m tall, and it grows pretty fast - you'll definitely spend some time gazing at those leaves unfolding. Its leaves grow to be 35-45 cm long, and up to 25 cm wide - so yes, it's big, it's bold, it's unbelievably beautiful!
If you're wondering about a Bird of paradise name - it also blooms after 3-5 years, producing flowers reminding a beautiful bird!
If you're thinking about getting a statement plant for your place, that's not too fussy - Strelizia is 100% the one!
Your plant comes in a 23 cm nursery pot and is approx 130-140 cm tall.
Light: Medium-High. While generally considered to have high light demands (the brightest indirect light you can get), our experience shows that low to medium light works quite as well (probably due to its large leaves, that have plenty of surface to absorb all available light).
Definitely don't put it in your darkest corner, but don't worry too much if your place is not lit like a tropical beach.
Min light - 200 FC, Good Growth - 400-800 FC
Water: Medium. The soil should be continually moist throughout the year, as it loses a lot of water through its big leaves. In summer you'll probably water it every day. In winter if in doubt - let the top soil dry a bit vs overwater.
Pets: Toxic to cats and dogs.
